They got an honorable man fired – but then the Supreme Court stepped in!
Many of our liberal government officials balk at our faith. They frequently pass un-Constitutional measures that infringe on Americans’ freedom of religion.
One football coached learned that when he started praying at the end of every game. It was a personal choice, done silently without any spectacle.
But the God-believing folks in his community wanted to join in. Soon, members of his team and players from the opposing team would join Coach Kennedy on the 50-yard line to pray.
The school board district, in response, suspended the man and fired him.
But four members of the Supreme Court just gave him hope.
From Fox News:
Former high school football coach Joe Kennedy, who was fired for praying after each game, is fighting to get his job back in time for the season…
Four justices — in a statement issued by Justice Samuel Alito and joined by Justices Clarence Thomas, Neil Gorsuch and Brett Kavanaugh — said the case “of the free speech rights of public school teachers is troubling and may justify review in the future” if more facts are revealed in a lower court.
Coach Kennedy brought his case to the courts. It’s unthinkable that a man should lose his job for praying.
This country’s Constitution protects our right to worship. Kennedy wasn’t forcing anyone to pray. He wasn’t even advocating a particular religion.
He was simply practicing his faith, which inspired others to join him.
For that, the school board wanted to punish him.
The case is still being worked out in the lower courts. But Justice Alito and the others’ response signals a big chance that the Supreme Court will weigh in on it.
The court is worried that overreaching school boards are trying to infringe on not only the religious rights of teachers but their free speech rights as well.
Isn’t Coach Kennedy an American? Are not his rights protected the same as every other American? Why should he lose his First Amendment freedoms when he walks onto a public school football field?
We think it’s ludicrous. And the SCOTUS knows it. His statement from these four justices is a spark of hope that no America should lose their freedoms because of their job.
Hopefully soon, Coach Kennedy will be back on the field where he belongs. And all God-believing public school teachers will have their rights protected.
SHARE to thank the Supreme Court for standing up for our religious rights!
